How to use a Righthand with Ashby

Prepare a reviewed application-stage handoff brief from approved Ashby inputs, with a worked example, complete brief, access checks, and reconciliation.

Quick answer

Use approved Ashby application records to prepare a recruiting handoff brief showing current administrative ownership and missing next-step information. The output supports the coordinator’s review without ranking applicants or advancing their applications.

Start with a application-stage handoff brief that the recruiting coordinator can check against the original records. Righthand prepares the review artifact; the source application remains the operational record.

Establish the input route

Ashby’s getting-started guide points users to its API reference introduction and related implementation guides. Official Ashby reference, checked October 6, 2026.

The recruiting owner should supply the selected job’s permitted application extract and their approved stage-to-owner rules. Before a connected read, confirm the actual available endpoint, authentication context, and job scope; provider API documentation alone does not establish Righthand’s supported actions.

Check the current integration directory and Righthand setup documentation. A listed app does not establish every read or write action. For a connected route, verify the assigned account, available operation, object scope, and one permitted sample read. This guide also works from an explicitly supplied, approved extract; it does not require an unverified native operation. Keep credentials out of the article brief.

Worked input and output

These three records are synthetic illustrations, not customer results or a hands-on integration test.

Approved inputProposed review output
AS61: application in review; next-action owner blankPrepare owner assignment question for coordinator
AS62: same candidate has two job applicationsKeep separate application and job rows
AS63: next-step note predates latest stage changeFlag stale handoff note for responsible recruiter

The brief should preserve stage text without interpreting it as a judgment about the candidate. AS63 is an administrative freshness problem: the next-action note may no longer apply. The recruiter, rather than the preparation task, decides which step belongs next.

A complete first-run brief

Use an approved Ashby application extract and handoff rules for October 12–16, 2026. Fields: application reference, candidate reference, job reference, recorded stage, stage-entered time, coordinator, next-action field, updated time. At Monday 9 AM America/Los_Angeles, prepare a application-stage handoff brief as source-linked Markdown in my private review thread. Preserve record identities and the extract timestamp. Group unresolved items by next action and responsible owner. Reviewer: recruiting coordinator. Do not evaluate applicants, change stages, schedule interviews, issue offers, or send recruiting messages. Result check: Match application/job identities and compare the next-action note’s date with the latest supplied stage evidence.

A permitted preparation step does not authorize a consequential write or an external send. Resolve proposed changes through the app's supported process after the responsible owner approves their exact scope.

Reconcile before widening the task

A candidate-centered export can flatten several applications into one apparent record. Ask for application identity before grouping. Missing stage-entered evidence also prevents a reliable time-in-stage conclusion; do not infer the transition time from the extract’s download date.

Use one open job for the first coordination review. Have the recruiter trace AS62’s separate applications and resolve AS63’s stale note. Only then propose a recurring brief, with the same stage definitions and explicit owner-routing criteria retained.

For the first acceptance review, keep the original input slice beside the result and mark which items were checked. If access or evidence is incomplete, return that gap with its record identity rather than a confident completion statement. Review Pricing using the actual preparation workload and correction effort.
