# ChatGPT alternatives: choose for the work you need done

Evaluate ChatGPT alternatives by the unfinished business task: source-heavy drafting, connected workspace research, or ongoing delegated preparation.

## Describe the reason to look elsewhere

A ChatGPT alternative is worth evaluating when you can name the unfinished job. Perhaps a draft needs clearer source control, the research lives in another workspace or you want someone responsible for preparing the next recurring review. A general ranking of assistants will not resolve those differences.

ChatGPT itself remains a candidate. Its [official overview](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9260256-chatgpt-capabilities-overview) describes a broad set of tools. Check the current account rather than assuming the product can only answer chat messages.

## Shortlist by working context

Claude is a candidate when a project built around supplied knowledge fits the assignment. Its [Projects documentation](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/9517075-what-are-projects) explains that working context; confirm what is available in your account.

Gemini is a candidate for work aligned with its documented Google-connected features. The [official subscriptions page](https://gemini.google/subscriptions/) identifies plan-dependent capabilities; inspect the exact connection and permission scope.

Righthand is a candidate for a delegated business responsibility. Start with the [setup docs](https://docs.righthand.ai/introduction) and name the result, sources and review owner.

| Reason to evaluate | Small assignment |
| --- | --- |
| Supplied knowledge needs a home | Draft from a versioned project packet |
| Work centers on Google records | Prepare a brief from explicitly approved sources |
| Preparation should repeat | Deliver one reviewed cycle and handle a source change |

## Use a project update with one disputed fact

Imagine a client project whose records include a completed milestone, an unapproved scope request and a draft delivery estimate. The team needs a truthful status update. The trap is presenting a request as approved work or an estimate as a promise.

> Draft the weekly project update from this approved packet. Separate completed work, proposed scope and estimated timing. Cite the record behind each status. Flag the disputed scope request for its decision owner. Return a review draft; do not send it or promise a delivery date.

A useful illustrative draft reports the completed milestone, names the open scope decision and labels the delivery estimate as conditional. The reviewer should be able to see which statement comes from a signed decision and which comes from a planning note.

Now add the owner's decision rejecting part of the scope request. The corrected update should remove the rejected work from the plan while preserving any approved portion. Inspect whether the assistant explains the change and avoids repeating the earlier disputed statement.

## Migrate context deliberately

Inventory project instructions, source files, decisions, schedules and output locations before switching. Separate current approved facts from old conversational suggestions. Moving a long chat transcript wholesale can make rejected ideas look authoritative.

Recreate one assignment with external actions disabled. Choose where the accepted draft lives and who owns the next review. If a recurring task is involved, pause the old task before letting a replacement execute the same responsibility. Verify the new output in its intended destination rather than treating a schedule setting as proof of delivery.

## Choose after review

Check current plans and account capabilities, including [Righthand Pricing](/pricing), against the pilot. Stay with ChatGPT if the configured workflow already serves the job. Choose an alternative when the changed-source test and reviewer handoff show a useful improvement that your team can maintain.
